Uptown Progressives is a member organization in the Coalition of Democratic and Progressive Organizations.
All women should have access to safe, comprehensive, reproductive health care services and education including the full range of approved birth control options, the right to access abortion, prenatal care, privacy in their reproductive health care decisions.
Background
Women have a right to choose whether or not they will bear a child. One in three American women will have an abortion by age of 45. Abortion is one of the safest medical procedures provided in the U. S. and too many women face unnecessary barriers when seeking abortion services. Sometimes these barriers are legal or economic - other times they are barriers of culture or language. Abortion providers offer quality care to women in the face of hostility, harassment, and threats of violence. Reproductive health care providers are forced to undertake comprehensive security measures to keep staff and patients safe.
Recommendations
We call on all levels of government to guarantee choice in reproductive options and services for women including access to birth control and safe and affordable abortions.
