Uptown Progressives is a member organization in the Coalition of Democratic and Progressive Organizations.
All people need and deserve to have clean water to drink and clean air to breathe. They deserve to be able to enjoy the beauty of nature. These rights should also be preserved for future generations.
Background
Corporate interests are putting profits above the welfare of people. Manufacturing and other processes (mining, energy creation, factory farms, logging, and others) are creating pollution of the air and water, as well as destroying natural environments and animal habitats. Global warming, extinction of species and the poisoning of oceans, rivers and wetlands are among the many negative effects of unsound environmental policies.
Recommendations
We call on Congress, as well as state and local policy makers, to enforce and strengthen environments regulations to protect air and water. They must protect our public lands from exploitation by business and industry. We must have rational zoning laws to contain urban and suburban sprawl. We must have available and affordable mass transit to protect our air quality as well as preserve our energy resources. Scientific evidence exists that global warming is occurring and needs to be curtailed and reversed. UP supports science-based strategies to address global warming. UP supports recyling and other strategies to improve the environment.
